EASTERN WOODLANDS

CLIMATE

  • Cold winter's & hot summers
  • Plentiful rain that created streams and rivers

GEOGRAPHY

  • The rich woodland forests included birch, oak, and maple tree's
  • The forests provided homes for many animals, such as turkeys, deer, beavers

HOUSES

  • In the regions forests, the Alqonquian tribes found the materials for houses
  • There houses were called wigwams
  • To make them, the Algonquians bent small trees into dome- shaped frame
  • The covered this frame with mats made from the bark from birch trees
  • Why, because they needed shelter and protection

TOOLS

  • The tools are made from birch trees
  • Why, because they did sewing for clothes

CLOTHING

  • Animals provided materials for clothing
  • Deer hide was commonly used
  • On special occasions, Alconquian men wore capes made of turkey feathers
  • The sewed together overlapping turkey feathers to create a sleeveless cape
  • Why, because they needed clothing for the climate
