This sounds much too simple but my California husband has used this rule for decades.

Obviously, smack the pit with the *sharp* side of the blade!

If you put it in the frig when it is just ripe the avocado will usually keep a week or more. This trick makes it much easier to time a ripe avocado for a particular meal.

This trick is handy when you want a few slices for a sandwich but don't want to eat the whole avocado.

Or fill with tiny shrimp and mayonnaise, or chop and add to salads, or slice and add to sandwiches, or or or.

Avocados are such nutritional marvels that we should all enjoy them often.
