SPECIALISTS

  • Specialists can only use a small range of resources.
  • Squirrels are specialists because they only eat acorns, berries, and flowers.

GENERALISTS

  • Generalists can use a wide range of resources.
  • Vultures are generalists because they eat multiple things inside decomposed bodies.

CONFORMERS

  • Conformers do not control their internal environments.
  • Tigers are conformers because they stay internally warm no matter what.

REGULATORS

  • Regulators are species that change internally based on environmental changes
  • Snakes are regulators because they can change to live in tropical or desert areas

MUTUALISM

  • Mutualism is when two species live together and benefit off each other
  • spider crab and algae have mutualism because algae gets a place to live and crab gets camouflage

PARASITISM

  • Parasitism is when one species benefits by harming but does not kill the other species
  • Mosquito and human have a parasitism relationship because the mosquito benefits without killing us

COMMENSALISM

  • Commensalism is when one species benefits while the other is unaware
  • The spider and deer have commensalism because the spider builds web while deer is unaware of it

PREDATION

  • Predation is when one species hunts another for food
  • The bird and fish have predation because the bird kills the fish for food

COMPETITION

  • Competition is when more than one species uses the same resource at the same time
  • Deer could have competition over food, resources, or mates
