SPECIALIST

  • A specialist species can only thrive in a narrow range of environmental conditions or has a limited diet.

GENERALIST

  • A generalist species is able to thrive in a wide variety of environmental conditions and can make use of a variety of different resources

CONFORMER

  • Any organism whose internal environment is highly influenced by external factors.

REGULATOR

  • Any organism that can maintain a constant internal environment largely independently of the external environment

MUTUALISM

  • A relationship that is mutually beneficial to two organisms

PARASITISM

  • A relationship between species, where one species, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host.

COMMENSALISM

  • A relationship between individuals of two species in which one species benefits from the other without either harming or benefiting the other organism

PREDATION

  • A biological interaction where a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attacked)

COMPETITION

  • An interaction between organisms or species in which the fitness of one is lowered by the presence of another
