LION PROJECT

PHYSICAL FEATURES

  • Lions have strong compact bodies and powerful legs.
  • Their teeth and jaws are also strong which helps them kill their prey.
  • Their coats are yellow - gold.
  • Adult males have shaggy manes.

WHERE DO THEY LIVE

  • They can live in many different types of habitat
  • African lions slick to grasslands and streams. They need to be near where their prey are
  • Asian lions also like to be near water as they eat the same type of prey as African lions.

ABIOTIC AND BIOTIC FACTORS OF THE LIONS HABITAT

  • Abiotic - water, light changes, Temperature / climate.
  • Biotic - wild life, plants, other lions.

WHAT DO THEY EAT

  • Wildebeast
  • Zebras
  • Giraffe
  • Buffalo
  • And sometimes rhinos and hippos. They will also eat smaller animals such as hares, birds and reptiles. They have been known to attack elephants when food is scarce.

FOOD CHAIN OF LIONS

  • The lion is the top consumer no Natural or predators on lions.

3 ADAPTATION OF THE LION?

  • The lion's archetypal roar is used to communicate with other group members and warn intruders of territorial boundaries. Long, retractable claws help the lion to grab and hold prey. The species' rough tongue helps it to peel the skin of prey animals away from flesh and flesh away from bone.
