BIRTH

  • Poe was born to traveling actors.
  • Poe was the middle child, with an older brother and a younger sister.
  • By the time Poe was 3 both of parents were dead.

POE'S TRUE FAMILY.

  • Poe's Parents, Eliza Poe and David Poe Jr., were traveling actors.
  • His older brother, William Henry Leonard Poe, was also a poet.
  • Poe's sister, Rosalie Poe, taught penman at a Richmond girl's school.

ALLAN FAMILY

  • Poe was adopted by John Allan after his parents died.
  • Allan wanted him to be a business man.

ACADEMIC HISTORY.

  • His step father sent him off to college with only one third of the payment needed.
  • In 1826, Poe began attending the University of Virginia.
  • Poe began to gamble to pay the debt.
  • Poe got himself in more debt from the gambling and drinking.
  • He then dropped out of the university.

ACADEMIC HISTORY

  • Poe enrolled in the United States Military Academy at West Point.
  • Poe then dropped out of the academy after 8 months to spite John Allan.

MILITARY HISTORY

  • Poe enlisted into the army in 1827.
  • Poe used a fake name and age to get into the army.
  • Poe usually earned about $5 a month in the army.
  • Poe was kicked out because he neglected his duty and disobeying orders.

LITERARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

  • Before going to West Point he published a book of poetry.
  • Poe gained an editorial position at the Southern Literary Messenger.
  • To celebrate his marriage he wrote the " Eulalie."
  • In 1845 he published "The Raven"

OUR INTERPRETATIONS OF THE QUOTE.

  • Camden's interpretation of the quote was that his friends were calling him a fool.
  • Stephen's interpretation's of the quote is that he believes that having faith in yourself is being foolish while his friends call it self confidence.
  • Now we will take your interpretations of the quote.

DEATH.

  • For days Poe went from delirium to unconsciousness.
  • Poe died on October 7, 1849
  • The first thought cause of death was congestion of the brain, but there are many new theories of the cause.
