• Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts Jan. 19, 1809
• His father abandoned the family and his mother died the following year
• He was then adopted by foster parents
• John Allen was the man who adopted him at the age of three
• Even at a young age Edgar was intrigued by poetry

ACHIEVEMENTS

• He went to the university of Virginia
• Published a pamphlet in 1827 using his poems
• He had been devoted to winning money only by doing literature alone
• Married Virginia Clem who was his cousin
• After her death from tuberculosis he grieved her

• He was known for his gothic genres of poems
• The "raven" was an instant success when he published it
• The "tell tale heart" was also a success
• Most of his works contributed to science fiction and dark themes

• In 1849 Edgar Allen Poe died a mysterious death
• The exact time he died was Oct. 7 Sunday 5:00am 1849
• He wasn't wearing his own clothes at the time
• And he was saying the name "Reynolds" it isn't known who he was talking about
• The last words he was claimed to say were "lord help my poor soul"
