- U.S. Cargo ship used to carry iron ore across the Great Lakes
- Was the largest ship on Lake Superior for many years
- 729 feet long
- Made June of 1958
- Sunk November 10 1975
THE STORM
- Started as a low pressure system in the southern plains
- Moved north east until it was directly over lake superior
- Caused hurricane force winds over 85 mph
THE SINKING
- The Edmund Fitzgerald sunk to the bottom of the lake on November 10 1975
- 30 Foot waves swept over the deck
- The ship snapped into two pieces and sank
EFFECTS
- The entire crew of 29 men all died
- All the iron ore the ship was carrying was lost
- The families of the crew were devestated
MONETARY DAMAGE
- The ship was worth several hundred thousand dollars
- The iron ore it carried was worth thousands
- The lives lost were priceless
