- Earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics & astronomy
- Went to Oxford University on a Rhodes scholarship
- At Oxford he didn't continue the studies of astronomy
- He studied law at Oxford
MOUNT WILSON OBSERVATORY
- Observatory was in California
- Made a classification system for the various galaxies he observed
- Proved cepheid variables were outside our galaxy
- Searching for many other galaxies such as our Milky Way
