Egalitarianism

  • Remove injustice & inequalities
  • law should be the same, does not matter your position or value
  • 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity'
  • Egalitarianism means 'Equality' in french
  • This started from 1750-1918 and is still progressing today.

Why EGALITARIANISM emerged

  • Lack of freedom
  • Lack of rights
  • Discrimination
  • No say in government
  • Gender Inequality
  • Unjust tax system
  • Poverty
  • Unemployment

HOW IT DEVELOPED

  • Changes in government began. They began to introduce charismatic and vocal leaders, and ideas that promote change to the government.

  • Female suffrage (gender inequality) was opposed by many men and people in power.

Impacts of egaliterianism

  • For the peasants (the 3rd estate) The French revolution was meant to bring ‘liberty, equality and fraternity’ (egalitarianism's goals) to the world, but a ‘reign of terror followed.’
  • Slavery was officially abolished in the 19th century, which highly promoted egaliterianism.
