HIEROGLYPHICS

  • Hieroglyphics are what Egyptians wrote down
  • The Egyptians used Hieroglyphics to record history
  • It is very hard to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics.
  • Hieroglyphics, are pictures that show what happened in history

PHARAOH

  • A Pharaoh is a worshipped king in Egyptians times
  • Pharaohs were believed to be gods or to have contact with the gods
  • Pharaohs, no matter what age, would always go to the throne

PYRAMID

  • A giant sloped structure created by Egyptians
  • Pyramids are usually where pharaohs are buried
  • Pyramids were highly thought of by Egyptians

TRIBUTE

  • A tribute is something given up by will, or force.
  • Sometimes due to polytheism, human tributes were made.
  • Many people sacrificed pottery, clothes, farm animals etc.

PAPYRUS

  • Papyrus was what Egyptians used to write on
  • They were papers created by the plant Papyrus
  • (Definition 2) Papyrus were plants that created Papyruses (Paper)

NILE RIVER

  • The Nile River was the longest river in Egypt
  • The Nile River's delta protected Egypt from invaders
  • The Nile was a good source of water and farming

DEITY

  • The rank, or estate of a god
  • Examples:Isis, Horus, Set

EMBALMING

  • To preserve, and protect a dead body
  • Many Egyptians embalmed the pharaohs carefully, and did the art perfectly
  • Only pharaohs got embalmed because they were highly worshipped

DYNASTY

  • The sequence of ruling a kingdom
  • Pharaohs that were pharaohs were usually family members of the old pharaoh
  • The new pharaohs were cherished like the old one

KING TUTANKHAMEN

  • King Tutankhamen was a highly worshipped pharaoh.
  • King Tutankhamen was the youngest pharaoh on the throne in history (Age 9)
  • King Tutankhamen was believe to have been murdered due to evidence on his head (Fatal Blow)

THEBES

  • Thebes was a city in upper Nile River
  • It was originally Egypt's capital

HATSHEPSUT

  • Hatshepsut was a former queen of Egypt
  • Hatshepsut was ruling for her husband, but after his death her nephew
  • After Hatshepsut ruled, she became a pharaoh
  • Hatshepsut was one of the few women who ruled Egypt.

RAMSES

  • Ramses was a warrior, and a good leader
  • Without Ramses, many things in Egypt would have gone wrong
  • When Ramses was appointed pharaoh, he was already a good leader

HYKSOS

  • The Hyksos were a group of nomadic people who ruled Egypt
  • The Hyksos were believe to have been from Asia and migrated to Egypt
  • The Hyksos weren't crowned normally. They invaded and took over
  • An Egyptian prince named Ahmose made an uprising, and took back Egypt.

KUSH

  • Kush is a civilization near the Nile River
  • It once was called Nubia, but was later renamed Kush

NUBIA

  • It was the original name of Kush before it was renamed.

  • The reason Egypt went out of control was due to battle of power
