  • They used masks for two reasons. For ritual purposes and for death masks.
  • There Ka leaves the body and visits the family during the night.
  • The death mask is also very important to their civilization.
  • All of the kings and queens masks were extremely sacred
Ancient Egypt's masks were an important part to their civilization. It was most important to the mummification progress because without a death mask, there wouldn't be a top to a sarcophagus! The ancient Egyptians used masks in two different ways. They used them as death masks as well as ritual masks. Death masks in ancient Egypt played a role in assisting the transition between life and death. For death masks though, they had to make them all different so their Ka clan recognize their body. The Ka leaves their body in the night and visits their family. If all the masks looked the same how would the Ka know which sarcophagus to go back into! For ritual masks, the masks were used for sacred ceremonies and it made all there wondered and fears even more of a mystery. In
conclusion, masks in ancient Egypt's were very important. It was important in their
civilization. Also, their were two kinds of masks death and ritual.

  •  Listed Three ways used: Theatre, Halloween and Makeup
  • Theatre: used to look like fictional characters or look different.
  • Halloween: Used to dress up and go house to house for candy.
  • Make-up: Used at the spa or at home to make your skin silky.
In our modern day time of the 21st century, masks are used for many purposes. One of the purposes of masks is theatre. Sometimes people today use masks in theatre to make them look like someone else or a fictional character like Shrek. The masks for these plays are not necessarily clay or paper mache, they also could be make up. Sometimes people put make up on during plays instead of physically a real mask. Another purpose of a mask is for holiday purposes such as the tradition of Halloween. Some people roughly around the ages of 3-15 go around house to house saying 'trick or treat' to get candy. Some costumes include to be goblins, witches, princesses and so on. These costumes include to wear masks. Another different way to use masks is a clay mask, make up mask or hardening masks. Sometimes people at home or at the spa, put on these masks to make silky, shiny, smooth, spectacular skin. In conclusion, I listed only three of the many ways we use masks today in our 21st century. theater uses them to change how they look. Halloween we use them to dress-up and lastly we use them to make our skin spectacular.

  • Most Egyptian masks were made out of cartonnage
  • There were two ways: Melting down and the cartonnage way .
  • King Tuts death mask was known for the lapis luzuli gem stone.
  • Only the highest kings in Egypt would get pure gold masks.
Ancient Egyptian masks were said to make their masks out of an interesting material called cartonnage. Cartonnage was made out of old linen and papyrus all together! After it was all mixed together, it turned out similar to paper mache. For example, the ancient Egyptians took the cartonnage and molded the kings face, (in this case king Tut's) with it, and painted the mask in pure gold and lapis luzuli eyes, liner and eyebrows. They also had another method. The other method consisted of the melting of gold and pour it into a mold. They did this so it was stronger and so someone couldnt just cut through the mask. All in all, they used cartonnage for most of the masks. Only the highest kings would get pure gold. Also, there were two ways the melting and the cartonnage way that includes painting the death mask.

  • Egyptians were not the first people to use masks.
  • Most cultures used masks in the form of drama and the theater.
  • theater started very early. it started as late as the 12th century.
  • Today, we still use masks in theater and to entertain people.
In different countries before ancient Egypt used them, they used them in similar ways. In one of the earliest times, the middle aged time, they used the masks for mysterious plays. Also, something similar happened during the 12th-16th century. Then, another early time was in the 15th century in Italy. In Italy, they used their masks for theater as well. The kind of theater they did with their masks included doing plays, drama, comedies and of course theater. All of the theater work that they did caught on to different countries at one point. One of the last places that i'm
going to list was in the 17th-20th century in Europe. in conclusion, lots of countries used masks and most used them in drama.

  • King Tut was one of the most valued pharaohs in Egypt.
  • The other pharaohs were still very much valued but not as much.
  • It sure would be bizarre if our kings and queens used death masks!
  • Blue and Gold were the colours of king Tuts death mask.
Ancient Egyptian masks have multiple subjects that i have not listed. One of the subjects that i didn't list was about king Tut and the other kings. Some facts about king tut is king Tut was known for her lapis luzuli blue coloured eyes. King Tut was one of the most important and valued pharaoh. Also, compared to other pharaoh's death masks king Tuts is amazing. Some of his masks were made from cartonnage. If we had death masks today, our kings and queens would have death masks! That's kind of weird to think about! lastly, a random fact. They thought if they helped the pharaoh get ready for death they would also get into the field of reeds. In summary, king Tut was the most valued pharaoh. As well, other kings are valued but not as much and what would it be like today.
