LA TOUR EIFFEL!

BY HANNAH

History/Culture

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 and was invented by a man named Gustave Eiffel. He sadly passed away on the 27th of December 1923 due to a stroke. The Eiffel Tower took 2 years 2 months and 5 days to make. There were 300 workers on the construction site at the time of making the monument and it was the biggest exhibit of Paris in the worlds fair of 1889. The tower was made of 7,000 tons of puddling Iron (which is a mixture of pig iron and wrought iron). One worker sadly passed away in the making of the Tower due to things falling from the first floor. Gustave Eiffel denied the initial design of the Eiffel Tower when Maurice Meochlin first had a design of his own, Gustave said he needed to add more detail.

The Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet tall. There are 5 billion lights on the Eiffel Tower. The first floor is 190 feet above the ground, the second floor is 376 feet above the ground, and the third floor is almost 900 feet above the ground. The Tower is 328 feet wide. The tower is made of pudding Iron. They light up the Tower on special occasions and do special light shows (Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Easter etc).
