PUPUSA

  • A pupusa is a traditional dish from El Salvador.
  • Pupusas are made from corn tortillas.
  • They are stuffed with all kinds of foods like cheese, pork rind, squash, bacon, and beans.
  • Today pupusas are made in many states in many countries.
  • In El Salvador, people eat pupusas all the time.

PUPUSA HISTORY

  • Pupusas were created by the Pipil Indians who inhabited El Salvador.
  • They were cooked over a wood fire using a pottery grill.
  • Pre columbian pupusas were half moon shaped.
  • Women were the ones who made the pupusas.
  • Pupusas were started almost 2000 years ago.
  • A war forced the El Salvadorian people to migrate which made pupusas available in other places.

PIPIL INDIANS

  • Pipil Indians created pupusas.
  • Pipil Indians were the first ones to inhabit El Salvador.
  • Pipil is a Uto-Aztecan language which is similar to Nahuatljand which was spoken in several parts of present day Central America
  • Pipil Indians were descendants of the Aztecs
