El Salvador is on the continent of Central America. It is the smallest country there.

El Salvador borders the North Pacific Ocean to the South/southwest. Guatemala is to the North/Northwest. Honduras is located North/Northeast, and in the Southeast the Golf De Fonseca borders it from Nicaragua.

The sand on El Salvador's beaches come from powdered lava from volcanoes, which gives it a unusual shiny black appearance.

The official language is Spanish, but a few thousand still speak the ancient language, Nahuat.
