  • The name Copper comes from Latin Cuprum after Cyprus, principal mining place in Roman era
  • It was believed to founded in 9000 B/C in the Middle East
  • No one knows who founded it first

  • Metal/Transition Metal
  • It has 29 Protons 34 Neutrons 29 Electrons 1 Valence Electron

MOST COMMONLY COMBINED TO MAKE COMPOUNDS

  • Copper fluoride: CuF
  • Copper selenide: CuSe
  • Copper oxide: CuO
  • Copper telluride: CuTe
  • Theres Dicoppers to all of these, Cu2Te=Dicopper telluride

  • Copper Wire
  • Copper Pipes/Tubing (plumbing)

OTHER FACTS

  • Copper is antibacterial which makes it good for door knobs
  • Copper is the only metal other than gold and cesium to have a natural color other than grey
  • Copper is 100% recyclable and nearly 80% of the copper that has been produced is still in use today
  • Copper can be found in its natural state. It can also be found the minerals cuprite, malachite, azurite, chalcopyrite and bornite
  • Coppers melting point is 1,984°F (1,085°C), its boiling point is 4,644°F (2,562°C)
