• Derived from the Greek word oxy and genes
• Together those words mean acid forming

THE HISTORY OF OXYGEN

• Oxygen had been produced several years before it's founding
• It's discovery did not come until the 17th Century
• Joseph Priestley and Carl Wilhelm Scheele both discovered oxygen

THE EARLY STAGES OF OXYGEN

• oxygen wasn't accepted as an element at first
• It is produced by heating mercuric oxide (HgO)
• The name oxygen was created by Antoine Lavoisier

WHAT IS OXYGEN?

• Oxygen is the third most abundant element in the universe
• There’s nitrogen (the most abundant of them all), Argon and Oxygen
• Hydrogen is the most abundant gas in all of the universe

• Water is made of two hydrogen atoms attached to an oxygen atom
• Water is the most abundant molecule on Earth
• Water can appear as liquid,gas,and solid

• Water is critical to everyday survival
• 97.5% of all Earths water is salt water
• Water is the essence of life
• Many animals and organisms depend on the water

• The air is made up of 78% Nitrogen and 20% Oxygen
• Air is vital to our Physical Bodies and our Health
• Oxygen in the air supplies, plants and Animals

AIR POLLUTION AND ITS VICTIMS

• Air pollution affects everyone
• Air pollution is a mixture of natural and man-made substances in the air we breathe
• Air pollution has lead to Respiratory Problems for many people
• It can lead to Asthma, cardiovascular diseases and even death.

HOW CAN WE HELP REDUCE AIR POLLUTION

• There are many solutions to this problem
• Alternative Energy Sources(Solar etc.)
• Biking, Walking
• Carpooling, Electric Cars
• Planting Trees and plants

OXYGEN IS OUR FRIEND

• Everyone lives on earth and clean air keeps Earth healthy
• There is oxygen everywhere, from the sky to vast oceans
• Oxygen is not just a matter of science, it gives Humans life
