ONOMATOPOEIA

  • Sound effects written in words.
  • The lion goes "roar!"
  • Roar is the sound a lion makes but written.

ALLITERATION

  • The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
  • The polite penguins passed peacefully.
  • Polite, penguins, passed and peacefully all start with the letter P.

OXYMORON

  • Conjoining contradictory terms.
  • The pig was very neat and tidy.
  • Pigs are known for being dirty but we're explained as neat and tidy.

ALLUSION

  • A figure of speech that refers to a well-known story,event,person, or object in order to make a comparison in the readers mind.
  • He was a real stallion with the ladies.
  • Comparing a boy to a stallion is an allusion.
