PURE SUBSTANCES THAT ARE COMPOSED OF THE SAME ATOMS

SOME EXAMPLES OF ELEMENTS ARE

HYDROGEN, OXYGEN, NITROGEN, CARBON, AND SODIUM

COMPOUNDS

COMPOUNDS ARE

2 OR MORE ELEMENTS CHEMICALLY COMBINED

SOME EXAMPLES OF COMPOUNDS ARE

H2O, Fe2O3, H2SO4, AND 2NO2

MIXTURES

MIXTURES ARE 2 OR MORE

Substances that have come together but have not made a new substance

SOME EXAMPLES OF MIXTURES ARE

Salad, air, chex mix, soil, and mixed vegetables

MIXTURES HAVE 2 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES

Homogeneous and heterogeneous

HOMOGENEOUS IS WHEN A

Substance is mixed well enough that we cant see each component

HETEROGENEOUS IS

When each component can be seen in the mixture

In the Earth's crust

OXYGEN - 46.6%

SILICON - 27.7%

ALUMINUM - 8.1%

IRON - 5%

CALCIUM - 3.6%

SODIUM - 2.8%
