I chose this topic because...

  • Elephants are my all time favorite animal.
  • I don't know too much about them.
  • I want to raise elephant awareness.

THE MAIN IDEA
The main idea is simply elephants. Elephants are an important species with a lot of problems.

Facts

  • African elephants have ears the same shape as their continent.
  • Elephants walk on their toes.
  • They are held up by a large pad to help them walk.
  • They can use their trunks as snorkels.
  • Elephant are not afraid of mice.

Facts (Continued)

  • Elephants drink 15,500 gallons of water each year.
  • They also eat 100,000 lbs of hay every single year.
  • Elephants have 6 sets of teeth in their lifetime.
  • They lose their 6th pair at 60, and they can't chew food, so they die.
  • There are over 600 types of elephants.

  • cow-female

MOST INTERESTING FACT
The most interesting fact I've learned is elephants are killed illegally by poachers because their tusks are made of ivory. This was interesting because I don't understand the reasoning of a person to kill a helpless animal.
