Shh! It's time for our

FIRE

Elijah calls down

There had been no rain for three years.

King Ahab and the majority of people believed a false god called Baal controlled the weather, not God. Three years had passed since Elijah had told King Ahab that there would be no more rain until God decided to bring it. For three years there had been no rain or dew throughout the land. God then told Elijah, ‘Go and present yourself to King Ahab as I am going to send rain.’

"Let's search for grass for the horses."

In the meantime, King Ahab had been searching for Elijah. The drought and famine in Samaria was severe and cattle were dying. The king summoned his palace administrator Obadiah and said, ‘Let’s search all the springs and valleys. Maybe we can find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive.’ King Ahab went in one direction and Obadiah in the other.

Obadiah saw Elijah.

Obadiah believed in the Lord God and when Ahab’s wife, Queen Jezebel, had ordered God’s prophets to be killed, he had secretly hidden 100 of them in two caves and supplied them with food and water. As Obadiah was walking along searching for water, he suddenly saw Elijah. Obadiah fell to the ground before the prophet of God asking, ‘Is it really you Elijah?’
‘Yes,’ Elijah replied. ‘Go tell King Ahab, that I am here.’

"I will see Ahab today."

Obadiah was afraid. ‘The king has been searching for you everywhere. If I tell Ahab that I have found you and then you disappear he will kill me.’
Elijah promised, ‘As surely as the God I serve lives, I will present myself to Ahab today.’

Obadiah brought King Ahab.

Obadiah went to fetch Ahab and the two returned to where Elijah was waiting.

"Ahab, you have caused trouble by worshipping Baal."

‘Is that you Elijah, the trouble maker of Israel?’ Ahab asked.
‘It is you who have been causing trouble by worshipping the false god Baal,’ Elijah replied.

"Bring everyone to Mt. Carmel."

‘Now summon all the people of Israel to Mount Carmel and bring the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah who eat with Queen Jezebel.’

Ahab sent word for the people to come to Mt. Carmel.

So King Ahab sent word throughout all Israel for all the people to assemble on Mount Carmel.

The false prophets also came.

The King also told the prophets of the false gods Baal and Asherah to gather to join them.

Everyone set off for Mount Carmel.

Everyone set off for Mount Carmel.

"The god who answers with fire – He is God."

Elijah addressed the large crowd that had gathered. ‘How long will you waver between two opinions? Make up your minds. If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.’
Everyone remained quiet. ‘There are 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah and just one prophet of God,’ Elijah pointed out. ‘Get two bulls, one for them and one for me. Let them prepare an altar, put wood on it, sacrifice their bull and place the meat on it. But they must not set fire to their sacrifice. I will prepare my sacrifice in the same way. Let the prophets call on their gods and I will call on the Name of the Lord. The god who answers with fire – He is God.’

The prophets of Baal danced around the altar.

Elijah instructed the prophets of Baal and Asherah to go first as there were more of them. They prepared the sacrifice and then started calling on their gods to set it on fire.
They kept pleading and dancing round the altar from morning until noon but there was no sign of fire.

Elijah made fun of Baal's prophets.

At noon, Elijah began to taunt them. ‘Shout louder!” he said. ‘Perhaps Baal is deep in thought... or busy... or away traveling.’

"Maybe Baal is asleep!"

The crowds watched on as Elijah mocked the false prophets. ‘Maybe Baal is sleeping and must be woken up,’ Elijah yelled.

The false prophets shouted louder.

So false prophets started shouting louder and
dancing more frantically to their gods. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention. There was no fire.

They tried to get Baal's attention.

As they became more desperate they slashed themselves with swords and spears to try and please their gods.

They danced until they were exhausted.

Midday passed, and they continued their frantic shouting and dancing all afternoon until it was evening. They were exhausted.

Elijah took 12 stones and repaired God's altar.

Elijah then gathered the people together and
repaired an altar to God that had been torn down. The altar was made up of 12 stones, one for each of the 12 tribes of Israel.

"Pour water on the offering."

Elijah dug a deep trench around the altar. Then he ordered, ‘Fill four large jars with water and pour the water on the offering and on the wood.’ They did so. ‘Do it again,’ Elijah said, and they did it again.’
‘Do it a third time,” Elijah ordered, and they did so. The water soaked the altar and filled the trench.’

Elijah prayed.

At the time of evening sacrifice, Elijah stepped forward and prayed. ‘Lord God of Israel, let it be known today that you are God and that I am your servant. Answer me Lord, so these people will know that you are God, and are turning their hearts back to You again.’

The fire of God fell.

Suddenly, the fire of God fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the soil and the water in the trench.

The people were amazed.

The large crowd gasped in fear and amazement.

"The LORD, He is God!"

They fell on their faces and cried, ‘The Lord—He is God! The Lord —He is God!’

"The LORD, He is God!"

Elijah commanded them to arrest the false prophets who had taught the people of Israel to worship false gods.

There is one God!

God is a powerful God! He is the only God! The Bible says there is "one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, and Father of all who is above all, through all and in you all!" So, how many gods are there? (1!) Baal's not a real god. Ashtaroth is not a real god. The false prophets trusted in them, and they could not answer any prayers. You are not god. I met a man when I went to college, and he told me, "I'm my own god." But he couldn't even make enough money to pay for his own stuff. He needed a real God in his life, not just himself. \

"Believing in yourself" is not enough.

If you watch Kung-Fu Panda, "Po thinks that the secret of unlimited power is believing in himself!" Kung-Fu Panda is a cute movie, but you can't just "believe in yourself." That's not enough. You need to believe in God! God is the creator; you are the creation. You are not God! Say: "There is one God!" Say, "I'm not Him!"

You can do a lot of things, but you can't do everything! Only God can do everything! What are some things you can do? What are some things only God can do?

After Jesus had been crucified, and then rose again and had gone into heaven, He had told his disciples, "I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you."

God's Spirit fell like fire on the day of Pentecost.

They listened to Jesus and waited in the upper room until they were all filled with God's Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost! Jesus DID come to them; His Holy Spirit filled them, and when that happened, it looked like tongues of fire were sitting on each of them! And they were not afraid; they were filled with joy and boldness! Before, they had been running scared and hiding, but now they were brave, and they began preaching everywhere!

Do you want God's Spirit to be with you all the time?

If we want the fire of God to be in our lives, and accept our sacrifice of praise, we need to REPENT!

REPENT

Elijah prayed.
God is a powerful God! He is the only God! The Bible says there is "one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, and Father of all who is above all, through all and in you all!" So, how many gods are there? (1!) Elijah believed that there was one God, and he prayed to Him.

BE BAPTIZED

Elijah soaked his sacrifice with water.
Elijah soaked his sacrifice with water. He soaked the offering, and the rocks and the wood - everything.

Holy Spirit

God's fire fell from heaven.
When he did that, fire from God fell from heaven and accepted what he had done. Some people say, "Accept Jesus as your savior." That's not a bad thing to say, but He is not the one who needs to be accepted! I can't save myself! I can't forgive myself of my sins! He has to forgive me and wash me and fill me with His Spirit! I need Him to accept me! And I want to bring him the right sacrifice of repentance and prayer, so let's pray together!

LET'S PRAY
