THE PROPHET WE CHOSE AND HOW HE FITS THE DEFINITION OF PROPHET
The prophet we chose was Elijah. Elijah fits the definition of prophet because the Lord chose him. He also spoke the word of God and was a strong follower in his faith.
Elijah became a prophet when the Lord called him to help the Israelites and Ahab. Elijah was a unwritten prophet. His writings were in 550 B.C. out in Tishbe/Thisbe now today known as Gilead.
“Then Elijah builds an altar to the Lord. He digs a trench around it, arranges wood for a fire, kills a bull for sacrifice, and has the people—who have been shilly-shallying between Baal and God—drench it with water. He calls for a show of God’s power, and fire comes down to consume the bull, the wood, and the stones, and even lap up the water. The unfaithful people fall to the ground and worship the God of Israel. Then Elijah has the prophets of Baal killed." 1 Kings 18:17–40.
Meanwhile, the messenger of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite: Go and meet the messengers of Samaria's king, and tell them: "Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire Baalzebub, the god of Ekron?"
For this, the Lord says: You shall not leave the bed upon which you lie; instead, you shall die. And Elijah departed. 2 Kings 1:3-4
