• Written by Abraham Lincoln

Causes

• Slavery was an important part of the economy in the south
• Many northerners were against slavery
• There were many conflicts involving slaves and slave owners
• There were many slave uprisings in the south 
• Slavery was one of the main causes of the civil war

Effects

• Because of the civil war Abraham Lincoln wrote the E.P.
• E.P. banned all slavery in the south
• Demanded all slaves be set free
• Allowed slaves to join army
