BIRTH AND DEATH

  • Born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst Massachusetts
  • Died in her hometown in 1836
  • She was only 56 years old

LIFE

  • Attended Mount Holyoke Female Seminary for one year
  • Loved Reverend Charles Wadsworth
  • He visited her home in 1860 then left for the West Coast
  • Dickinson fllowed his departure with many heartsick poems
  • She lived isolated from the world beginning in the 1860's

FAME

  • Dickinson was not publicly recognized durin her lifetime
  • She sent many of her poems via letters to her friends
  • Her first volume of work was published in 1890, four years after her death
  • Her last volume was published in 1955, a solid 59 years after her death
  • She also never titled her poetry so it is named based on the first line
