Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts December 10, 1830.

LUCK OF BEING BORN

SHE WAS BORN AT A TIME WHEN WOMEN DIED OF CHILD BIRTH.

BEING PURITAN

Her family was among the first settlers in America called Puritans.

MOVING FROM ENGLAND

THEY CAME FROM ENGLAND IN THE 1630S SEEKING RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.

BEGINNING OF EDUCATION

SHE BEGAN SCHOOL AT FIVE AT AMHERST ACADEMY WHERE SHE WROTE HER FIRST POEM

THE ACADEMY

SHE LEARNED A LOT OF READING AND GRAMMAR COMPOSITION FROM THERE.

COLLEGE

AFTER SHE GRADUATED FROM THE ACADEMY, SHE WENT TO MOUNT HOLYOKE.

BEGINNING OF POETRY

ALONG THE WAY SHE WROTE A LOT OF POEMS LIKE THIS ONE ABOVE.

AFTER COLLEGE

EMILY NEVER HAD A CAREER. SHE DID THINGS AROUND THE HOUSE LIKE GARDENING.

ONLY A FEW OF HER POEMS HAVE BECOME FAMOUS LIKE "BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP AT DEATH"

EMILY DICKINSON DIED ON MAY 15, 1886 FROM BRIGHTS DISEASE.
