What did you have for breakfast?

(and other misconceptions about using social media)

How about you? Where are you on the web?

Have enough information to be found

Be clear about who you are on the web.
Be transparent and ensure that if someone is looking for you that they can find what you want them to find.

Being found here means both physically and virtually (in a professional context)

Be useful

or you will be the equivalent of a B-list celebrity
Heads up - It's not about you but about how you can contribute to your network. If you push information but don't contribute then you may as well be a B-list celebrity (and no one wants to be that)

Your idea

A good network is all about give and take

Use the web to be global and use your face to face connections as part of that.

All the old rules apply
They will find you online
Be yourself.

Look for like minded people online that have similar interests as you. Then share with them links to articles that you have found interesting and useful.

If you are available they will find you and you will find them

Don't forget to connect with colleagues you have met face to face and bring them into your online networks. This is useful.
