Slide Notes

Being honest with God in prayer is not easy, but as Fr. Martin points out - it is of great importance. When you love someone, you want to hear about their troubles, comfort them in times of pain, advise them in times of confusion, and celebrate with them in times of joy. As God loves us - Her desire is the same. The God who loves you wants to share those moments, every moment, with you. Honesty in prayer allows that to happen.

Be Honest with God

HONESTY FOLLOWS AND FURTHERS LOVE
Being honest with God in prayer is not easy, but as Fr. Martin points out - it is of great importance. When you love someone, you want to hear about their troubles, comfort them in times of pain, advise them in times of confusion, and celebrate with them in times of joy. As God loves us - Her desire is the same. The God who loves you wants to share those moments, every moment, with you. Honesty in prayer allows that to happen.

Listen to God

WORDS, IMAGINATION, AND SILENCE
Fr. Martin mentions a number of ways that one can "listen to God." How do you listen to God in your own life? Do you hear God in the words of others, in your own thoughts/imagination, in peaceful silence?

Which of the Five

DOES GOD USE WITH YOU?
God communicates with us through desires, emotions, insights, memories, and feelings both emotional and physical. The next time you pray, pay attention to which one (or more) of those five enter into your prayer, what might God be saying to you?

DESIRES

Is God speaking to you through desires? What are the desires that emerge when you are in prayer? What might God be saying to you?

EMOTIONS

What emotions do you experience during prayer? Have you shared those emotions with God? How might God be within your happiness, sadness, joy, or confusion?

INSIGHTS

Insights arrive in all shapes and sizes. Could God be within the new perspective or fresh realization?

MEMORIES

Does prayer bring you back days, weeks, months, or years? Do you find yourself re-living a situation or event? Could God be calling you back there for a reason? Might God be there when you arrive?

FEELINGS

Feelings, like emotions, can feel like an other. We are not often conscious of their birth - yet there presence is a powerful force within our prayer. Spend time with your feelings - share them with God - and seek Him in their reality.

Changing Perception?

CHANGING RELATIONSHIP?
How has your perception of God changed over the years? Has your relationship with God changed as well?
