WORLD WAR TWO

●Work with Russia to make a two fronted attack on Germany
●North Africa and Southern Europe
●Stalin wanted them to start in France
●Fighting start in June 1942 in Africa
●Ends May 1943

BATTLE OF STALINGRAD

Nazi forces had nearly taken Stalingrad. Controlled 90% of city.
Air Force conducted raids on city at night and reduced it to rubble.
Stalin would not give up.
Winter set in- again. November 1942-Soviets launched counterattack.
Surrounded Nazi and cut off supplies.
City was ruined but Nazis were NOW on the run

Took Power from Mussolini
July 10, 1943
July 25- it was over and El Duche was arrested
Later hid as a German and killed, hung and humiliated (remember the Pic!)

BATTLE OF THE BULGE

Allies surrounded Nazis
Dec 16- German tanks broke through weak American defenses in the Ardennes
Were caught off guard but eventually pushed Nazis back
Nazis had no choice but to RETREAT

Hitler marries his longtime gf on April 29, on next day they commit suicide. Bodies were taken out and burned.
Eisenhower accepted unconditional surrender
May 8, 1945 V-E Day- Victory in Europe

NOW TO JAPAN

General MacArthur led troops into Philippines
Fierce fighting
Japanese navy was all but wiped out.
only Kamikazes and army were left.
March 1945- Americans took Iwo Jima

JAPAN SURRENDERS

President Truman knew an attack on Japan could cost Allies half a million lives
Made decision to us the A-Bomb
Top secret in Manhattan Project
Told Japanese to surrender or expect a “rain or ruin from the air.”
