PRESENTATION OUTLINE

INTRODUCTION TO ENERGY

TYPES

ENERGY

  • Is the ability to cause change.
  • There are several types of energy.
  • Energy can not be created or destroyed.
  • Energy before = Energy after.

POTENTIAL ENERGY

  • Potential energy is stored in an object or system.
  • An example of potential energy is a drawn bow able to store energy as result of its position.

KINETIC ENERGY

  • Occurs when something has motion.
  • Also know as "work needed to accelerate."
  • 1/2mv2

GRAVITATIONAL POTENTIAL ENERGY

  • Energy stored in an object as the result of its vertical position or height
  • The energy is stored as a result of gravitational attraction to earth.

CHEMICAL POTENTIAL ENERGY

  • Energy that is stored in atoms and bonds between atoms and can be released by various chemical reactions.
  • Example: when gasoline is burned.

ELASTIC POTENTIAL ENERGY

  • Energy stored in materials as the result of their stretching and compressing.
  • This energy can be stored in rubber bands and bungee cords.

MECHANICAL ENERGY

  • Energy that is associated with the motion and position of an object
  • Defined as the ability to do works

LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY

  • This law states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another or transferred from one object to another

CONCLUSION

  • To have energy in the future you must understand energy and types of energy
