Energy

By:Dalton Messick

Obtaining Energy

Obtaing Solar Energy

  • Makes energy from the sun.
  • They use solar panels to get it
  • It doesn't cause pollution
  • They store the energy in solar batteries

Oil and Natual Gas

  • It comes from under ground
  • Takes millions of years to make
  • Cost a lot of money to get
  • They store it in barrels
  • Its easy to transport

Fracking

  • Drill deep into the earth
  • Blows cracks in the rocks to get the gasses
  • Costs a lot of money
  • If there isn't any gasses they go somewhere else
  • Store it in barrels

Power Grid

  • A network of power lines
  • It covers a certain area
  • It carrys electricity from plants to consumers
  • The united states has 3 main power grids

Nuclear Energy

  • Energy from when an atom is split
  • 13% of the worlds energy is nuclear
  • The energy is made in plants
  • Has a lot of toxic waste

Off Shore

  • Gets oil and other things from under water
  • Use oil rigs to get it
  • Put it on ships and take it back to shore
  • Place it in barrels

Pipe Lines

  • Some run through America and Canada
  • They carry oil
  • They use it to take it to different destinations

Ships

  • They put in containers
  • Put it on ships and take it to different countries
  • America gets a lot of imported fuel

Power Substations

  • They are used to restore power quicly
  • Like when a place goes out of power

Oil

  • Its made by deceased animals that decayed
  • It takes millions of years to form
  • We are using it faster then it can be made
  • Eventuraly we will run out of it

Natrul Gas

  • The main Ingredeint is methane
  • Comes from under groud
  • NON renewable
  • Takes millions of years to make

Coal

  • Takes millions of years to make
  • Its NON renewable
  • Its made of deceased plants that have decayed

Uranium

  • It is nuclear
  • Energy made in power plants
  • It has radioactive left over
  • It is non renewable

Solar

  • It is made by solar pannels
  • Changes sun light to electrcity
  • It is renewable

Wind

  • Electricity made by wind turbines
  • It is renewable
  • Produced by the wind

Geothermal

  • It is heat from within the earth
  • It is renewable
  • Its heat constantly made within the earth

Hydropower

  • Its energy made by water
  • A Dam is an axample
  • It is renewable

Biomass

  • It is renewable energy from plants and animasl
  • It is organic material that comes from plants and animals
  • Example wood, crops, animal manure, and human sewage

Conservation

  • Small things can save a lot
  • Turn off water while shaving
  • Turn off water while brushing teeth
  • Set water heater temperature no higher than 120
  • limit shower lengths to 5-7  minutes
