Objective

My objective is to help people understand what energy is and the different kinds and forms of energy.

DEFINITION

  • Energy-The ability to do work. It is a positive scalar quantity measured in joules.

QUESTION Of The Day

  • What are 3 different kinds of energy?

FACTS

  • There are many different kinds of energy like sound energy, chemical energy, radiant (light) energy, electric energy, nuclear energy and mechanical energy.

FACTS

  • Potential energy is sometimes called the energy of position or the energy of condition. A items potential energy can depend on its position and a force that has the potential to move the system from its current position. An example of potential energy is a ball close to an edge of a table, but not falling off of it.

FACTS

  • Kinetic energy is energy of motion. All moving matter, regardless of size, has kinetic energy. Kinetic energy depends only on the system’s mass and speed. A example of kinetic energy is a ball rolling down a hill.

FACTS

  • Sound energy (acoustic energy)- sound originates from the vibrations that result after an object applies a force to another object. For example playing a guitar.

fACTS

  • Chemical energy is the potential of a chemical substance to undergo a transformation through a chemical reaction to transform other chemical substances. For example batteries, natural gas and coal are all examples of stored Chemical energy.

facts

  • Radiant (light) energy-is the energy of electromagnetic waves. Some examples of radiant energy are an x-ray, solar energy, light bulbs.

facts

  • Electric energy is energy that is caused by moving electric charges. Since the electric charges are moving, this is a form of kinetic energy. The faster the electric charges are moving the more electrical energy they carry. Examples of electric energy are a car battery, a lamp, a stove.

facts

  • Nuclear energy is energy that is stored within the nucleus of atoms. The only way for this energy to be released is through the splitting of or joining of atomic nuclei. A example of this is a nuclear power plant.

FACTS

  • Mechanical energy is the sum of its energy in motion (kinetic energy) and its stored motion (potential energy). Some examples of this is running, cars, a flying bird or plane.

Biblical integration

  • “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:13‬. This verse tells us that God gives us energy but also gives us strength through Him.
