WIND ENERGY

ENERGY OF OUR FUTURE?

DISADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

  • Needs wind
  • Can disturb habitats
  • Very noisy to use
  • Produces some pollution
  • Lowers value of property

MORE DISADVANTAGES...

  • Kills bats and birds
  • Has to have constant speed
  • Could be unsafe
  • Sometimes doesn't produce electricity
  • Can be unpleasant to look at

MORE DISADVANTAGES...

  • Can be very expensive
  • Needs lots of wind to generate energy
  • Some areas don't have a lot of wind
  • All require some fossil fuels
  • Requires clearing space or land

ENERGY SOURCES

BY: KASSIE BARTZ

SOLAR ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF SOLAR ENERGY

  • It is renewable
  • It has little pollution
  • It is fairly clean
  • The supply is unlimited in some places
  • It is quiet to use

DISADVANTAGES OF SOLAR ENERGY

  • Sun isn't available in some places
  • Difficult to manage
  • It is very expensive
  • Large areas are needed
  • Big hard to manage batteries needed

WIND ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

  • Becoming more efficient
  • Doesn't make greenhouse gases
  • Doesn't take up a lot of space
  • Popular/ interesting to see
  • Different sizes of turbines

FOSSIL FUELS

ADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS

  • Pretty inexpensive
  • Will last 150 years
  • Working on making it cleaner
  • Lots of electricity in one place
  • 50 percent of our elec. comes from it

DISADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS

  • Non renewable
  • Smells bad when using
  • Mining can cause destruction
  • Has transportation problems
  • Causes pollution

BIOMASS

ADVANTAGES OF BIOMASS

  • Can be used for vehicles
  • Can be used for electricity
  • Working on making more efficient
  • Renewable
  • Available in different forms

DISADVANTAGES OF BIOMASS

  • More expensive than fossil fuels
  • Causes some pollution
  • Possible environment harm
  • Sometimes inefficient
  • Requires land

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

  • It is renewable
  • It is inexpensive
  • It is safe and clean
  • It is sometimes an attraction
  • Causes no pollution

DISADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

  • Only built where there is hot water
  • Can sometimes be too deep
  • Can not be moved
  • Can suddenly stop working
  • Hazardous chemicals

NUCLEAR ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

  • It is a quick reactor
  • It has an efficient design
  • Disaster proof systems are being put
  • Can be good for the economy
  • Can reduce greenhouse gases

DISADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

  • Uranium can be dangerous
  • Its waste can be very hazardous
  • Long time to build power station
  • Nonrenewable
  • Uranium exists only in some countries

HYDROPOWER

ADVANTAGES OF HYDROPOWER

  • Gets elec. for lots of places
  • Most successful of renewable energy sources
  • Cheap and efficient
  • Produces little pollution
  • Some places have enough water to make a lot of electricity

DISADVANTAGES OF HYDROPOWER

  • Not strong enough to replace fossil fuels
  • Can block pretty views
  • Of course there has to be water
  • Fish can get lost in them
  • Can cause mudslides
