WHAT IS ENERGY?

  • Energy is the ability to do work.
  • Energy comes in many different forms.
  • Some of the forms are heat, light, and sound energy.
  • Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but changes from one form to another.
  • It also moves from place to place.

CONDUCTION

  • Conduction is the moving of heat between objects that are touching
  • This happens when molecules gain more heat,
  • bumping into other molecules and causing them to heat up.
  • The heat is transferred faster when the conductor is better.
  • Metal is very good at conducting heat.

CONVECTION

  • Convection is when hot energy forces cold energy into its
  • previous place.
  • This makes a circulation current, or convection current.
  • An example of this is our atmosphere: the air on the earth's
  • surface is heated and rises to the top, forcing cold air out of the way

RADIATION

  • Radiation is heat transfer that doesn't require direct
  • contact.
  • Examples of this are the heat from the sun and the
  • heat from a light bulb.
