Coal

a combustible black or dark brown rock consisting mainly of carbonized plant matter

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Advantages:
  • Helps with electricity
  • Environmental friendly
  • Disadvantages
  • Non renewable
  • Emission of green house gase

The Future?

  • Coal would not be a good source of the future. For 1, it is nonrenewable. There for we will eventually run out of it anyways. Also, Coal ruins the ecosystem and emits greenhouse gasses. In all coal just would not be a good source for our future.

Oil

a viscous liquid derived from petroleum

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • Small amount of oil in a large amount of energy
  • High Energy Density
  • Disadvantages
  • Nonrenewable
  • Ruining the environment

The future?

  • Oil would not be a good source for the future. First, it is nonrenewable. So even if it was a good source we would eventually run out of it. Also, oil is actually very bad for the environment. In fact oil is actually ruining our environment.

Natural Gas
a fossil fuel formed when layers of buried plants, gases, and animals are exposed to intense heat and pressure over thousands of years.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages:
  • Much more powerful than other resources
  • Burns Clean
  • Disadvantages:
  • Pollutes Air
  • Nonrenewable

The future?

  • Natural Gas would not be a good resource for the future. It pollutes the air and is non renewable. Like many resources it is nonrenewable so even if it was a good resource for the future we would still eventually run out. Besides Natural Gas pollutes the air. Why would you want to use a resource that is bad for the economy?

Nuclear energy

he energy released during nuclear fission or fusion.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages:
  • Relatively Low Costs
  • Low Pollution
  • Disadvantages:
  • Radioactive Waste
  • Accidents Happe

Future

  • Like many resources Nuclear Energy is Nonrenewable. Radioactive waste is permitted in Nuclear energy. Therefore Nuclear Energy will not be a good source for our future.

Wind

turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical or electrical energy

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • The creation of wind energy is "clean"
  • Wind can never be depleted like other natural, non-renewable resources
  • Disadvantages
  • Wind doesn't always blow consistently
  • Wind turbines and other equipment required to create wind energy can be very expensive

Future?

  • Wind Energy would be a good source of the future. For one, it is a renewable resource. We will never run out of wind. Also, wind energy does not pollute the air. The creation of wind is clean. Yes it may be costly but, it is worth it.

Hydroelectric

the production of electrical power through GRAVITATIONAL power &Flowing water

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • A renewable resource
  • Much safer than other resources
  • Disadvantages
  • Hydroelectricity is expensive
  • Environmental Consequences

The Future?

  • Although Hydroelectricity is costly, it would be an excellent source of the future. We would never run out of it because it is renewable, and could be rapidly replenished. Also Hydroelectricity is much safer than other resources. There is no fuel involved in the making of Hydroelectricity (other than water) making it much safer.

Geothermal

Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • Available most places
  • No fuel required
  • Disadvantages
  • High construction costs
  • Losses due to long distance transmission of electricity

The future?

  • Geothermal energy would be a good source of the future. Most importantly it is renewable. We would be able to restore it quickly. A huge reason why it would not be a good source for the future is, because of the high construction costs. It would cost a lot of money to construct it but in the end, Geothermal Energy would be an excellent future source.

Solar

radiant energy emitted by the sun.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • Solar Energy is Free
  • Does not cause pollution
  • Disadvantages
  • Can only be harnessed when daytime and sunny
  • Large energy of land rewuired

The future?

  • Solar energy although a renewable resource would not be a good future source. Yes it is free and Yes it does not pollute the air, but we would not be able to use it all the time. If it were a cold rainy day for example, solar energy would not be a good resource. Or if you lived in a small area solar energy would not be useful to you.

Biomass

the total mass of organisms in a given area or volume

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • No harmful emissions
  • Clean Energy
  • Disadvantages
  • Expensive
  • Harmful to environment

The future

  • Biomass is a renewable resource, but it would not be a good source for the future. It is expensive for 1. We would have to spend lots of money just to keep replenishing this resource. Plus, it harms the environment. Although there are no harmful emissions biomass still harms the environment. Therefore it would not be a good future resource.

BIO-FUELS-Ethanol

Type of energy derived from renewable plant and animal materials.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • Greenhouse Gas Reduction
  • Biodegradable
  • Disadvantages
  • Water Absorption
  • Fuel Transportation

Future?

  • Ethanol would be a good future source. It is renewable and biodegradable. Not only can it be replaced but it can be decomposed by other living things. There are only a couple small disadvantages to having Ethanol as a future resource. Water absorption is a main one but water is renewable so it is not a big deal. Ethanol would be a great source for the future

Bio-Fuels-Biodiesl

a biofuel intended as a substitute for diesel.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • Easy to source
  • Renewable
  • Disadvantages
  • High cost of production
  • Future rise in price

The future?

  • Biodiesl
  • Biodiesl would not be good future resource. There will be future rises in prices. As time passes prices will be increasing. Plus there is a high cost of production. Meaning it will cost a lot to use biodiesl.

ELectric Cars

Automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • Cost less than gasoline
  • Doesn't pollute the air
  • Disadvantages
  • Can't drive as far
  • Long refueling time

Future

  • Electric cars would be a great source for the future. They are renewable. Electric cars are easily replaceable. Also to charge the car costs less than gasoline. On the negative side, electricity is not free. It will still cost you money to charge your car, but not as much as it would to fill your tank of gas.

Hydrogen fuel cells

produces electricity by combining a fuel, usually hydrogen, with oxygen

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Advantages
  • High efficencey
  • CLean
  • Disadvantages
  • Short Range
  • Expensive

Future?

  • While hydrogen fuel cells are a renewable resource they would not be a good source for the future. They are expensive. It will cost you a lot of money. Also hydrogen fuel cells have a short range. All in all, it would not be a good resource to have hydrogen fuel cells in the future.
