ENERGY SORCES

BY: REAGAN WATKINS - 7TH PERIOD

SOLAR ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF SOLAR ENERGY

  • Low cost
  • Renewable
  • Clean
  • Safe
  • Used for heating, cooking, drying clothes, and removing salt from water.

DISADVANTAGES OF SOLAR ENERGY

  • Harder to do near trees.
  • Not much energy collected on cloudy days.
  • Takes up lots of land.

WIND ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

  • Clean
  • Cheaper
  • NO pollution creativity
  • Renewable

DISADVANTAGES OF WIND ENERGY

  • NO wind = NO electricity
  • Turbines are not pretty, so they ruin a scenery.
  • Can't store easily.
  • Hard to move electricity long ways.

FOSSIL FUELS

ADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS

  • Cheap
  • Most reliable resource
  • Large supplies are available

DISADVANTAGES OF FOSSIL FUELS

  • Gives off gases & smoke that create pollution
  • Harmful to people & animals
  • One of the causes of global warming
  • Non-renewable

BIOMASS ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF BIOMASS ENERGY

  • Always available
  • Cheaper
  • Secondary product
  • Renewable
  • Produces oxygen

DISADVANTAGES OF BIOMASS ENERGY

  • Pollution
  • Burns biomass
  • Basic crop= no longer grown
  • They need to update their harvesting methods
  • Research is needed to reduce costs of production

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

  • Provides energy 24/7 all year long
  • Takes up only a small amount of land
  • Renewable, but heat can be removed faster than to be heated
  • Clean process

DISADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

  • Most places dont have access to geothermal water
  • Release of steam

NUCLEAR POWER ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR POWER ENERGY

  • Inexhaustible resource
  • More powerful than fossil fuels
  • Produces NO greenhouse gases
  • Nuclear power plants CAN'T become thermonuclear bombs
  • People promote nuclear power

DISADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR POWER ENERGY

  • Produces a lot of waste
  • Fuel= gets used up, leaving a waste product
  • Waste is highly radioactive
  • No where to store nuclear fuel

HYDROPOWER ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF HYDRO POWER ENERGY

  • Clean and renewable
  • Cheap source of energy
  • Can be stored
  • Works on a large scale
  • Doesn't cause pollution or global warming

DISADVANTAGES OF HYDROPOWER ENERGY

  • Can still hurt the enviroment
  • Building dams cost a lot of money
  • Can change the course of a river, which causes it to be hard for fish to move
  • Dams can lead to mudslides
