The main clause can stand alone as a simple sentnce but the subordinate can not stand alone as a sentence
Sentences will be joined by:
After,Although,Because,Before,Whereas,As

Made up on one or more simple sentence
It is joined by a comma(,) and a conjunction

They can also be joined by:
