The radio brought together 10 million Americans for news, entertainment, and advertisement. During this time period of the 1920s, many people listened to the radio to distract themselves from the Great Depression. The news on the radio was provided to all people, including those who were unable to have the paper because they lived in remote areas. The media allowed for many artists an opportunity to show their talent to listeners of the radio.

The phonograph allowed for Americans to listen to music of their own choice. With the radio, the music was chosen for them as someone else was choosing what to play. With this device, genres of music like Jazz and the Blues became popular. They also began to record their own music with the phonograph
