PRESENTATION OUTLINE

FORESTS

  • A large area of land covered with trees or other woody vegetation
  • Animlas- Black bears, beavers, white-tailed deer, woodpecker.
  • Limiting factors- light, space, nutrients, predators, fire.

BEACHES

  • A pebbly or sandy shore, especially by the ocean between high and low water marks.
  • Animals- Clams, crabs, seagulls, pelicans, starfish,
  • Limiting factors- space, predators, human activity

PRAIRIES

  • Prairies are ecosystems considered part of the temperate grasslands.
  • Animals- hawk, prairie dog, coyote, skunk, cottontail rabbit.
  • Limiting factors- availability of water, fire, herbivores.

DUNES

  • A mound or ridge of sand or other loose sediments formed by the wind.
  • Animals- Birds, turtles, snakes, lizards, mouse, etc.
  • Limiting factors- space, deep slopes.

LAKES AND PONDS

  • Standing bodies of freshwater.
  • Animals- ducks, walking catfish, crayfish, tadpoles, trout, bass, bullfrogs.
  • Limiting factors- Low oxygen, temperature, light.

RIVERS AND STREAMS

  • A source of freshwater that flows in a channel or watercourse.
  • Animals- manatee, Beaver, snails, leeches, turtles, frogs.
  • Limiting factors- Shelter, predators, low oxygen levels.

WETLAND

  • An area where land is covered by water for at least part of the year.
  • Animals- mallard duck, turtles, bullfrog, water-snakes, fish, dragonflies.
  • Limiting factors- nutrients, low oxygen levels, drying up of wetland.

CORAL REEF

  • A ridge of rock in the sea formed by the growth and deposit of coral.
  • Animals- sea turtles, crabs, shrimp, anenomes, starfish, fish.
  • Limiting factors- Space, high temperature, polluted water.

ESTUARY

  • An area where freshwater mixes with salt water.
  • Animals- turtles, alligator, blue herons, egrets, fish.
  • Limiting factors- nutrients, water movement, salt levels in the water.

SALT MARSHES

  • An area of coastal grassland that is regularly flooded By water.
  • Animals- Water-snake, birds, worms, fish, crustaceans.
  • Limiting factors- flooding, salt levels, nutrients, low oxygen levels.

MANGROVE SWAMP

  • A regional coastal swamp of tropical regions that is dominated by mangrove trees.
  • Animals- small fish, Egret, crocodile, mangrove monitor, flamingo.
  • Limiting factors- temperature, nutrients, salt levels, predators.
