So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

Walk No Longer

Do not walk, live life like those who do not know God

There is a time when we do walk like we do not know God...

Sometimes at conversion we get instant deliverance from sinful habits

Other times we drag them with us into the kingdom and they drop off over time in a process called sanctification

Today God invites us to stop walking like we don't know Him....

Stop being trapped by sinful habits

Destructive attitudes ...etc.

Learning is the process of gaining new information……..in this case about Jesus, the real truth…….

Study Jesus – for that is where the truth is………you change the source of truth and you change the truth….

Put off – lay down, lay aside, put away

The old – that which is worn out, worse for wear, antiquated, no longer effective

that corrupt – pull us away from holiness and the things that strengthen our walk with God

lust – passionate desire for that which is forbidden

Renew your attitude of mind – present passive – allow God to renew, restore, - when we put ourselves in a position of learning about Jesus He automatically does a work in our hearts – to rehabilitate that which sin has rendered useless…………like your life…………

attitude of mind – refresh our perspective with God’s viewpoint on the issue……….

Put on – like you would a coat or shirt, and we are able to put on the new self since we have put away the old and have allowed God to renew us refit us for service…

the new self – for Christians have not only changed their minds through Christ they have also changed their citizenship – 2 Cor 5:17, I John 2:15-17 Read

Godliness – we were created in the likeness or image of God – designed to have fellowship with Him from our very first breath……
(Illus. In a sense that the Bible is an owner’s manual……….)

Righteousness – that which comes from Christ and allows us to be acceptable to God the Father

Holiness – that external activity that stems from a heart that is right with God, full of Christ’s righteousness

Sin’s tragic profile leads to vain, useless, futile thinking, that which amounts to nothing substantial

Dark – - being darkened – perfect passive participle – covered in darkness, complete and total inability to see, and then metaphorically to understand or tell direction, and along with that darkness comes the fear of not knowing where you are going, or who is out there getting ready to attack me…….

Separate – alienated from God – shut out from fellowship slaves to destructive behaviors

Ignorant – lack of knowledge – which is only logical since this person ahs no light and cannot get close to God, they are left to their own imagination to provide the answers to the problems of life

Hard – calluses that build up and thus hinder our ability to sense God touching leading or guiding us, the result of a heart rubbing up against sin…………

Lost – sensitivity – perfect active participle – cease to feel pain or grief, loss of compassion, leads to apathy for others and for the negative results of sin

Helpless – As a result, sin’s slippery slope finds us at mercy of our impure, corrupt appetites – into unbridled, shameless sexual perversion. In Scripture this is the direct result of being cut off from God, and we simply give in to our desires and they take their evil course…………..

Empty – in the sense that we can never fully satisfy the desires of the flesh, and there is a perpetual need for more, more drugs at a higher dose, more often, more, more, more…………..this word is used to describe the striving for more and more possessions, the seeking for more and more power, the encroachment on others space or belongings…….never satisfied

What we end up with is a full list and an empty life – let’s look at this visually
