WHAT DO THEY DO?
Epidemiologists are public health professionals who investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury in humans.

EDUCATION
Epidemiologists need at least a master’s degree from an accredited postsecondary institution. Most epidemiologists have a master’s in public health (MPH) or a related field, and some have a doctoral training in epidemiology.

KECK UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

The Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is a major center of medical research, education and patient care. Founded in 1885, the Keck School of Medicine (formerly the USC College of Medicine) is the oldest medical school in Southern California. It is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United States.

PAY/SALARY
The median annual wage for epidemiologists was $65,270 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $42,620, and the top 10 percent earned more than $108,320.

They are trying to research and cure many diseases and disorders as well known as cancer to as rare as FOP.

  • Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva- a disease in which a connective tissue is ossified when damaged thereby creating an extrernal skeleton

DISEASES AND DISORDERS

  • Progeria is not as rare as FOP and more well known. Progeria is an extremely rare genetic disorder where symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at a very early age.
