WHAT IS EPILEPSY?

A disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed causing seizures.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • 1 in 20 epileptics are sensitive to flickering light (can trigger a seizure)
  • Is the 4th most common neurological problem
  • Is usually not a lifelong disorder
  • Seizures have a begging, middle and, end

RISKFUL BEHAVIORS

  • There are some risks with taking Epilepsy medication
  • Feeling Tired
  • Dizziness
  • Upset or discomfort in stomach
  • Blurred Vision

TREAMENT

  • Epilepsy medication (by prescription only)
  • Surgery
  • Herbal Therapy- natural medication
  • Dietary Therapies

SCIENCE AND SYMPTOMS

  • Sometimes staring into space- a type of less noticeable seizure
  • A constant muscle twitch that is not noticeable
  • Partial seizures
  • Muscle spasms

PREVENTION

  • Regular sleep
  • Stress management and relaxation techniques
  • Avoid drugs and alcohol
  • Take all medication prescribed by your doctor
  • Eating a healthy diet
