COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAM

8TH GRADE
The school's computer science program is transitioning away from a computer "technology" program through which students learned how to be "end users" of computer applications and capabilities and toward a program in which students develop more computational and design thinking skills in a "producer" oriented program. In other words, the 8th grade computer science program is shifting from teaching students using computer programs to producing contents.

The goal of Computer Science in the middle school is to instill a knowledge of and confidence in the iterative, problem-solving process. Using the Computer Science Teacher Association (CSTA) standards to inform the curriculum the following five strands are covered: computational thinking, collaboration, computing practice and programming, computers and communication devices and community, global and ethical impacts.
