Biography

  • Born in Spring Grove New Zealand
  • Awarded the Nobel Prize in 1908
  • Came from a large family (12 children). They were very poor
  • Conducted first science experiment when he was 10.

Discoveries/ Research

  • He discovered a simpler way to detecting radio waves
  • Studied effects of X-Rays by conducting gasses
  • New type of radiation from Uranium 
  • Nearly the total mass of an atom in concentrated in the nucleus*
  • Named "Father of  the nuclear age"

  • Was awarded many awards during his life.

  • Died October 19, 1937
