Around Us

Erosion changes the landscape by wearing down mountains, filling in valleys, and making rivers appear and disappear. It is usually a slow and gradual process that occurs over thousands or millions of years.

Fun Fact!

Scientists estimate that the Colorado River has been eroding the Grand Canyon for many millions of years.

Quote:"Not all Erosion is bad.Without it, for example, there would be no Beaches"-Carl Hershner

Impact on our Future?

Erosion effects on soil

>>Erosion effects productivity on soil and slope stability.

>>Soil are vital to both plants and animals
without soil plants can't grow without plants animals cannot survive.

>>Erosion has a very negative impact on soil because it decreases soil fertility

erosion around the world

This is a picture of the grand canyon
Erosional landscapes are present throughout the world.

Some examples are mountain ranges such as the Rocky Mountains, and river valleys like the Grand Canyon.

different type's of Erosion..

Soil Erosion

this is a picture of soil erosion

Water erosion

Erosion by water changes the shape of coastlines. Waves constantly crash against shores. They pound rocks into pebbles and reduce pebbles to sand. Water sometimes takes sand away from beaches. This moves the coastline farther inland.

Ice Erosion

Ice can erode the land. In frigid areas and on some mountaintops, glaciers move slowly downhill and across the land. As they move, they pick up everything in their path, from tiny grains of sand to huge boulders.

wind Erosion

Wind Erosion carries dust, sand, and volcanic ash from one place to another. Wind can sometimes blow sand into towering dunes.

Why should we care?

Erosion has a negative impact on farmers because when the ground separate is is taking away land from the farmer and this is surceases food supply's.

Solutions to prevent Soil Erosion?

Vegetation
geotextiles
mulch
and retaining wall

Vegetation and geotextiles are natuwal ways to help stop erosion
