Ethical Conduct: Three things I learned...

  • There are three moral languages; rules/principles, character, and basic beliefs.
  • Human dignity; In order for teachers to expect respect they must give respect. This was the reason for the elimination of corpral punishment in schools.
  • Ethical conduct is important due to the globalization and mobility of the human race. Due to globalization there is an intrinsic web of multiculturalism in the classroom demanding great attention to ethical conduct in terms of diversity and cultural differences.

Ethical Conduct: 2 things same or different

  • The article states that it is now more important to focus on multiculturalism that citizenship. In my classroom I tend to focus on citizenship then allow for the expression of multiculturalism.
  • The article also explains that international students should not be treated differently from other students. I tend not to treat them differently and have been frown upon by administrators and other teachers for holding them accountable for their academics. I do ensure that the work is equitable but in terms of expectations they are treated equal.

Ethical Conduct: 1 thing to implement

  • I have a tendency of use language and jargon that focus on the different cultural norms of my students. I always felt by assimilating to their cultural norms would create a relationship with the students were they felt that I valued their cultural differences. This article states that it is important to avoid jargon and use language that is culturally neutral.
