ETHICAL ISSUES

BY: MATT L. AND RILEY W.

DNA FINGERPRINTING

  • A test to identify the genetic information
  • It is accurate if done correctly
  • It can help solve crimes by finding DNA
  • There should be limits to the testing
  • But it can help keep tabs on everyone

GENE THERAPY

  • Replaces a mutated gene with a healthy one
  • Is a major advancement in medical research
  • The therapy is expensive and only available to the wealthy
  • Gene therapy changes the human's qualities
  • It is dangerous and effects the person's children

GENETIC MODIFICATION

  • Taking genes then putting them with other genes
  • Creates a hybrid of the two species
  • There can be health hazards with food hybrids
  • Can be used for military purposes
  • We end up with unnatural animals, foods or others

CLONING

  • Taking a cell the reconstructing it then it is
  • Fused with an egg cell then creates an identical offspring
  • Disorders often occur with a cloned child
  • The offspring will live shorter because it's born with old cells
  • Cloning could stop genetic diversity which makes humans adaptable

ETHICAL?

  • DNA fingerprinting is ethical
  • Gene therapy is not ethical
  • Genetic modification is not ethical
  • Cloning is not ethical
