PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Ethnocentrism

What is Ethnocentrism?

Ethnocentrism is judging another culture solely by the values and standards of one's own culture. Ethnocentric individuals judge other groups relative to their own ethnic group or culture, especially with concern for language, behavior, customs, and religion..

Many people travel all around the world in search of culture and to learn more about people and their lifestyle.

In Scandinavia, during graduation time, the kids party, get drunk then drive.

The parents don't want them to drink and drive.

So, the parents of the graduates buy the beer, rent a van, let the kids decorate it, then finally they have their party.

The parents that drive don't drink. That way the kids have their party and everyone is safe.

We might think that is wrong and that they are educating them to drink. When in reality they are just handling it a different way.

We might say something like "Just don't do it". But kids will do it anyway and drink then drive.

In Scandinavia instead of bieng the smart and educated kind, they buy everything and personally drive their kids around the city.

That way nobody lies, nobody gets hurt, and everyone is safe.
