PRESENTATION OUTLINE

EUTHANASIA

BY MARC DIAZ

REASONS WHY IT SHOULD BE LEGAL

  • It is someones right to choose
  • If someone is terminally ill
  • If someone cannot afford treatment
  • If someone is permanently injured/disbled

The Right to Die

"Americans should enjoy a right guaranteed in the European Declaration of human rights- the right not to be forced to suffer. It should be considered as much of a crime to make someone live who with justification does not wish to continue."

Continued..

This point has been continuously argued and focuses on the right of someone to make their own decisions in their life, especially if one is terminally ill.

If someone is terminally ill

If someone has been told they will not survive a sickness that they have they should be able to determine the course of action that should be taken. Euthanasia is both painless and justifiable in almost all situations.

Continued..

When someone feels like they cannot go on any longer due to any pain and suffering they have endured which would lead most certainly to death they should choose their path.

Continued...

"Whenever an animal is mortally ill or injured we practice active euthanasia by giving them lethal injection which is both humane and painless."

If a family is economically struggling.

The families of people who are dying may not have enough money to pay for their hospitalization in some cases. Due to this many people feel they are a burden on their families and knowing they will eventually pass away they choose euthanasia.

Continued..

"The poor funding for palliative care and pain management, and governments' uncooperative reliance on nursing homes."

People who are permanently injured/disabled

If someone can no longer function on their own or struggle to perform daily activities their family should be able to make a decision regarding their life.

Continued...

"The right of a terminally ill person to avoid excruciating pain and embrace a timely and dignified death bears the sanction of history and is implicit in the concept of ordered liberty."

Counter argument

People may argue euthanasia shows a person who has no regard to human life. But in fact they are helping a person who is suffering and relieving their pain.

Conclusion

Euthanasia is a justifiable and dignified way for someone to end their life in the way they choose. It is allowed in 5 states but it should be allowed in the United States due to the rights of people.
