Events Leading up to the American Revolution

Proclamation of 1763

  • Issued on October 7, 1763 by King George III

Boston Tea Party

  • Colonists dumped about 2 million lbs of tea
  • Some Colonists dressed like Indians to be unknown  
  • East India Tea Company in a financial crisis
  • British approve the Tea Act, an act that taxes tea

intolerable acts

  • Quartering Acts: an act that lets British soldiers live in your house
  • Forced tea down colonist's throat
  • Colonists had to repay for dumping tea to East India Company
  • Colonists tarred and feathered british soldiers, burnt british ships too

Townshend acts

  • Named after Charles Townshend(a.k.a. Champange Charlie)
  • Passed after the Sugar Act of 1764 was repealed 
  • The Townshend Acts were passed in 1767 by the British Parliament  

boston massacre

  • Colonists threw snowballs full of rocks
  • British Troops killed 5 colonists, injured 6 other
  • Happened on March 5, 1770 in Boston
  • 8 soldiers, 1 officer, and 4 civilians arrested and charged with murder
  • Future president John Adams(1735-1826) defended 8 soldiers, got 2 charged w
