Historical Stage

  • The life of Jesus himself
  • Around 6BC
  • No much is known about his first 30 years
  • His final 2-3 years were spent in the public life
  • He spent time preaching about:

-The reign of God
- Forgiving sins
- Healing the sick

Oral Preaching

AD. 30-65

- These stories began to be spoken about before Christ was crucified
- Was done through teaching stories
- Writing materials were very expensive
- Oral testimonies were preferred

Gospel Writing

AD 65-100

- Notes were taken from stories
- Some people memorised what Jesus said
- Between AD. 50-65: letters, written summaries, sayings, collections of parables and miracles began to circulate

- Apostles and other first-gen Christians relayed their eyewitness encounters with Jesus to converts
- As time went by, these eye-witnesses aged and died
- They realised Jesus was returning as fast as they had expected
- This started the creation of written accounts
